MSR POCKET ROCKET STOVE
I used and LOVED my MSR Pocket Rocket throughout the duration of my AT thru-hike. It’s lightweight (3 ounces), compact, durable and relatively inexpensive. This stove will boil 1L of water in less than 4 minutes.
What I liked best about the pocket rocket is you can adjust the flame to choose whether you want to simmer or boil. Alcohol stoves don’t allow that luxury.

I will be posting a weekly gear-related item. It will always be something I have used or seen used enough that I would recommend. Hopefully, this helps stimulate conversation about gear and assist beginning backpackers with gear selection.

I got my MSR Pocket Rocket in 1995, cost me $89.00 and it was on sale. I have no clue what they cost now but it came in a triangle shaped plastic case and lid and still looks like the day I bought it. It’s one of the best camping/hiking tools I’ve ever owned and could not ever imagine not having one. Good choice Jessica.
They are less than half of that now (about $40), but they are still the best yet! So cool to hear yours has lasted over 20 years. Sounds like a pretty good investment to me 🙂
