GENESIS II NECK KNIFE

Before I began my PCT trek, my friend Patrick with MT Knives asked me what knife I planned on taking on my trip. I told him I had carried a Gerber knife on the AT, to which he responded, “Gerbers are for babies.” He recommended his Genesis II knife that comes with a Kydex neck knife sheath, so it is always easily accessible.

I’ve been on trail for over a month now and so far I really love it. It’s comforting having easy access to self-protection while backpacking and hitchhiking. More importantly, I don’t have to search for my knife in my pack when I’m ready to cut summer sausage for lunch. My knife with the sheath and paracord is about 2.4 ounces. Also, it’s seriously sharp. Patrick prides his knives in being “beyond razor sharp.”

Folks have been asking about what knife I’m carrying on the PCT. I let Patrick know there was interest, and he is now offering a 10% discount on his knives for to my Patreon supporters. To learn more about supporting me on Patreon, go to

I will be posting a weekly gear-related item. It will always be something I have used or seen used enough that I would recommend. Hopefully, this helps initiate conversation about gear and assist beginning backpackers with gear selection.
